The Role
As a Works Train Technician you will be responsible for undertaking mechanical preventative and corrective maintenance on a variety of works train rail plant equipment. This hands-on role will allow you to work with various types of equipment, ensuring the safety and reliability of operations. You will also be responsible for the delivery of works train equipment, locomotive driving within worksites and troubleshooting of all works train equipment and service vehicles.   

 

Principal Accountabilities, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Understand and respect Health and Safety and operational procedures. 
  • Perform planned maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment in accordance with approved diagnostic procedures and instructions to ensure equipment is returned to service in a safe and timely manner. 
  • Undertake fault diagnostic work and perform consequential corrective maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment in accordance with approved diagnostic procedures and instructions to ensure the equipment is returned to service in a safe and timely way. 
  • Understand and participate in the preparation of equipment for service, including inspection and testing to meet customer demands.  
  • Configuration of Works Train equipment as required. 
  • Operation of Works Train equipment and Locomotives within worksites. 
  • Record and report equipment performance against agreed instructions and schedules. 
  • Learn relevant computerised administrative systems. 
  • Become qualified in the use of all relevant equipment (e.g. locomotives, MEWPs, HP wash, vacuum and drainage modules, electrical, PSV vehicles, forklifts, etc). 
  • HND/HNC qualification or equivalent in a mechanical or domestic/automotive role, however, a relevant qualification at BTEC / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent may be considered if combined with relevant work experience in a technical environment.   
  • Previous experience of working in an electrical or mechanical environment is essential. 
  • Experience in motor vehicle maintenance including light commercial and PSV including vehicle diagnostics an advantage.  
  • The ability to communicate in both English and French would be an advantage. 
  • A valid Driving Licence and Passport are essential.
