The Role

 

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety (H&S) Expert to provide competent advice and assistance on H&S matters across all work activities in the UK terminal both sub-contracted and internal. You will be a great communicator with a proven record of accomplishment of driving forward H&S standards. You will support the H&S Manager UK in the implementation of the safety strategy across all divisions in the UK, working with colleagues bi-nationally to ensure consistency and best practice.

 

Principal Accountabilities

 

  • Provide specialist advice and assistance on health, safety, and welfare matters, standards, and principles of working practices that comply with relevant legislation.
  • Contribute to the development of the H&S strategy, risk plans, and the delivery of policies and practices. Actively contributes to H&S targets and safety awareness.
  • Review and monitor the company’s safety management systems and safe systems of work, to advise, analyse and maintain the performance of risk assessments.
  • Review industry best practices to ensure compliance and recommend improvements.
  • Provide specialist support and advice in the investigation of incidents and coach operational managers on incident reporting if required.
  • Conduct regular site safety audits in line with HSE/ORR guidance and RM3 (Risk Maturity Model) and apply company policy to demonstrate levels of compliance and create actions for improvement, as necessary.
  • Identify gaps in the company's management system and compare the legal requirements. Advise on what actions are required to be taken and supervise timescales for actions to be completed.
  • Carry out inductions for new staff members to raise awareness of the terminal rules, H&S risks, and other requirements.
  • Coach staff and managers in H&S walkabouts, inspections (and any other matters) to help improve and maintain business H&S performance, competence, and awareness.
  • Assist the H&S Manager UK in any matters which fall within the company’s H&S agenda.
  • Coordinate, coach, and act as a mentor to the team of H&S Facilitators.
  • To Deputise for the H&S Manager UK and Occupational Health Manager in their absence
  • Lead by example, providing others with clear direction, in line with the Getlink Leadership model.


Qualifications and Experience

 

  • A Safety Diploma Level 6 qualification (NEBOSH, NVQ, NCRQ, or equivalent).
  • A Graduate/Certified member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
  • Qualification as a lead auditor is desirable.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a proficient level of literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Computer literate with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc).
  • Proven demonstratable experience of Health and Safety in a transport, construction, or high-risk environment.
  • A valid Driving Licence and Passport are essential.
