The Role 

 

The Control Systems Engineer is responsible for all critical real-time operational systems, e.g. Rail Traffic Management System (RTM), Engineering Management System (EMS), Tunnel Fire Detection Supervision System (CFT), Terminal Access Control (CIC), Terminal Traffic Management (TTM), Video Surveillance, WindAlert, Icecast, and the real-time systems’ networks. All these systems have a significant effect on the safety, security, and operational capabilities of the enterprise.  

The systems are bespoke control systems operating 24/7, 365 days a year, requiring specialist and expert engineers to manage and develop. This is a critical role for safety. This position is Monday to Friday but includes on-call on a rotational basis. 

 

Principal Accountabilities, Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Maintaining and managing assigned projects within the Real-Time Systems.
  • Liaising with the Operations Departments for incident/failure investigations, defining changes/developments, and providing reports to security authorities (internal and external).
  • Produce system migration plans to ensure: - compliance with the requirements of the Security Authorities. - Maximum availability and integrity of the system. 
  • Support the replacement and major evolutions of the real-time systems as part of the future migration by getting involved in the different phases of the project: definition of specifications, monitoring of the project, tests, implementation, and final commissioning at the end of the continuous maintenance phase. 
  • Managing and analysing outages to ensure systems are operating at agreed performance levels. 
  • Assist the other Control System Engineers of the PCG team, telecommunications, and control systems experts (TCS), and the signalling maintenance team, with technical support and provide second-line internal support in diagnostic, testing, and recommissioning situations.
  • Identify all necessary system administration activities (e.g., system backup, security management, configuration control). 
  • Participate in the production of migration solutions for the future development of control systems by providing technical input for all systems in the department. 
  • Carry out technical monitoring by keeping abreast of the evolution of technologies in all aspects of real-time automated industrial systems. 
  • Minimum 2 years in the administration and maintenance of control and control systems.
  • Engineering degree (electrical, electronic, computer science and automation) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience administering several of the following operating systems; Windows, Linux.  
  • Experience in administering Windows Servers / PCs, AD and VMware. 
  • Programming experience.
  • Experience in technical support in the maintenance and/or development of critical control systems in the railway environment would be an advantage. 
  • Experience of transversal work in "project" mode.
  • A valid Driving Licence and Passport is essential.
