Job description

As a Health & Safety Assurance Advisor within the HSQE Assurance team, you will play a key role in supporting the proactive management of health and safety across the UK Terminal.

You will work closely with senior HSQE colleagues to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and internal Safety Management Systems (SMS), while helping to identify, assess, and control risks across operational areas.

This role involves engaging with employees, managers, and contractors to promote a strong safety culture, provide expert advice, and support continuous improvement in health and safety performance.

Job requirements

  • Provide professional advice to managers and staff on health, safety and welfare matters, ensuring alignment with company standards and SMS.

  • Support and review risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work, recommending improvements where required.

  • Contribute to the promotion of a positive safety culture through communication, initiatives, and engagement activities.

  • Assist with incident investigations, identifying root causes and supporting corrective actions.

  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections in line with regulatory and internal requirements (e.g. HSE, ORR, CTSA).

  • Monitor compliance using recognised frameworks (e.g. RM3: Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology).

  • Analyse incident data and trends to drive continuous improvement.

  • Coach and mentor managers and staff in safety practices, including walkabouts and inspections.

  • Support HSQE leadership with broader health and safety initiatives.

  • Prepare and present safety performance updates at team and management forums.

  • Contribute to health and safety reporting processes, including SAP-based reporting.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Level 6 qualification in Health & Safety, or Level 5 with demonstrable relevant experience.

  • Practical experience in risk assessments and incident/accident investigation.

  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office.

  • Full driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge or experience of ISO 45001.

  • Understanding of Eurotunnel operations or similar complex operational environments.

  • Basic French language skills.
