Job description
To carry out preventative and corrective mechanical maintenance on a wide range of works train and rail plant equipment. This includes locomotives (Krupp Main Line and Schoma Shunters), hybrid on-track machines, wagons, MEWPs, Hiabs, and service vehicles.
The role also involves fault‑finding, preparing equipment for service, shunting and operating locomotives within worksites, and ensuring assets are returned to service safely and efficiently.
Job requirements
Follow all Health and Safety (H&S) and operational procedures.
Perform scheduled maintenance on electro‑mechanical equipment using approved diagnostic processes.
Conduct fault-finding and corrective repairs to return equipment to service promptly and safely.
Prepare equipment for service, including inspections, testing, and configuration.
Shunt locomotives and wagons, complete pre‑departure checks, and operate works train equipment within worksites.
Record maintenance activities and performance in line with procedures.
Use and learn computerised maintenance and administrative systems.
Obtain qualifications needed to operate relevant equipment (locomotives, MEWPs, PSV vehicles, forklifts, high‑pressure washers, etc.).
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
HND/HNC (or equivalent) in mechanical, automotive, or plant engineering
OR
Level 3 NVQ/BTEC with experience in a similar technical environment.Previous experience working in a mechanical or electrical maintenance environment.
Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and reading technical schematics.
Advanced experience in motor vehicle maintenance, including light commercial and PSV, including vehicle diagnostics.
Full driving licence (manual and automatic).
A valid Passport is required for this role.
Desirable
Rail industry experience,
Ability to communicate in English; French language skills are an advantage.
